Seamus McGrane: Real IRA pioneer passes on in jail

A dissenter republican who was imprisoned for plotting a bomb assault amid Prince Charles' visit to Ireland in 2015 has kicked the bucket in jail.

Sixty-four-year-old Seamus McGrane, who was condemned to 11-and-a-half years in jail in 2017, passed on Saturday.

He was a pioneer of the Real IRA - a gathering in charge of various outrages including the Omagh bomb.

The Irish Prison Service said no unfairness was suspected in connection to his demise.

"Likewise with all passings in care the Prison Service, the Inspector of Prisons and A Garda Síochána will examine the episode," a representative said.
